Positive: Pheasant Hill Hideaway Staying here is like flying First Class. The first thing you notice is the space. After days on the road in conventional accommodation the space is luxurious. The second is the attention to detail, everything has been thought of and then implemented very, very well. And thirdly, the warm and sincere personal attention. Our hosts — exceedingly interesting people in their own right — were thoughtful and attentive, always from a discreet distance. A tip: use Pheasant Hill Hideaway differently, as a base. Drive outwards to places you might have made stops along your way, be it north to Whangamata and Coromandel or south to Tauranga and the Mount or west to Paeroa and Thames. After a day exploring those towns you’ll experience that best of feelings — driving ‘home’ for the night. We loved it. Oh, and if your plans are for a week at Waihi Beach, go for it. Everything above applies. The beach and beach eateries are truly just minutes away by car but you’ll return nightly to the tranquility of a gorgeous home, quite literally, off the grid.
Negative: Nothing we didn't like. There may have been shortcomings in the past but these are dynamic hosts, the kind of people who address any 'issues' and turn them around. Our first arrival (Is this the way in?) had a sense of adventure to it but thereafter was a natural part of the 'Hideaway' branding.
Summary: We patted our backs for an inspired choice. In a lifetime of travel my first ever 10/10 review.
